Project Type: Custom Prefab Home
Design 2004, Completion 2006
An early experiment in hybrid prefab construction, this 3,500 sf home was built in a factory and finished on site. The siding is a tropical hardwood with natural resistance to decay. The interior included clear fir trim and cabinets, stained concrete floors, and natural stone tiles. The project was inspired by the simple architectural forms created by the Japanese architect Tado Ando, rendered in a wood siding rather than concrete.

A challenging triangular shaped lot informed the plan of this minimalist clapboard house with a nod to Victorian traditions. The main level opens to a south facing deck surrounded by trees. The upper level master bedroom opens to a wrap around deck with views to the Flatirons. Interiors are composed of subtle variations of white cabinetry and ceramics, with warm white oak floors and stairs. Walls are finished without baseboard or trim to further the minimalist approach. The kitchen is designed to accommodate group cooking lessons.
